5.0 away from 5 stars Easy P&S camera to use, August 25, 2010
This review is from: GE A1050 BK 10MP Camcorder with 5X Optical Zoom and 2.5 Inch LCD with Auto Brightness Black (Electronics)
I happened across this camera during your search for only a small P&S camera that could take anywhere. Atlanta private investigators a phone camera no longer can do the career properly. Having used this camera for 4 months and taken thousands of pictures, for you personally Concerning experienced:
Good:
* 2 AA battery power assuming they die, obtaining suitable replacements is amazingly easy.
* Using AA NiMH batteries I am about 250 pictures per number of 2,300 mAh batteries.
* 10.1 MP sensor 4:3 is default resolution ratio, but it really provides the capability of shooting 3:2 (at 9 MP size).
* 1/2.33" CCD sensor quite standard
* 5X optical zoom Akin to 35 MM to 175 MM.
* Macro mode with focus to 3"
* Live histogram, but must be fired up every you is powered up
* SD and SDHC card capacity I've worn out for a 4 GB SDHC card not having problems.
* Mini USB cable (nonstandard) connection for picture transfer.
* Three light meter modes Spot, center weighted and AiAE (a complex full frame evaluation mode).
The Bad:
* Close distance flash shots wash out of subject metering in the flash is detrimental.
* Transferring in excess of 50 pictures at any given time via USB cable may cause the digital camera to crash.
* A rectangular shutter button that may be a bit stiff to be effective often.
* Spot metering will wash out pictures. The right mode is AiAE (complex metering)
* The histogram are not programed to on everyday
* EV setting is a bit tedious the consequence takes once the EV choice has powered down. It has to be restarted each time you interest to make an exposure adjustment
* The LCD lighting on auto mode can show the preview exposure darker and uneven, when, in reality, the exposure is pretty good.
* Awkward keeping the zoom rocker switch
* Framing grid line is a mid gray color and they are difficult see in sunny conditions. No provision to change the hue.
I wrote Customer Service in connection with the histogram and grid line issues. Within Day, they responded. There's no provision to swap the default programing of features about this camera. They suggested a firmware update, but for this model, GE posted Version 1.10 to the support website. We have Version 1.11 on my camera.
My real test was even on a cross country trip the 2009 April, where I took this camera, a Canon A590 along with Fujifilm S100FS. The pictures taken while using GE were sharp and clear, after they were outside whilst in the AiAE metering mode. Taking photos in landscape mode must have been a mixed bag greens were overblown and reds were suppressed.
Also, now you have an economical P&S camera. Don't expect perfect live action shots, unless you crank up the ISO speed relevant the photographs are typically grainy. I learned to have this camera at ISO 100 for that greater part of my pictures. Trucking jobs automatic scene detection mode that is, however too may be a mixed bag. I've shot outdoor pictures of plants in bright sunlight together your camera first start up the flash that that it was in Sunset mode and backlit subject. Go figure.
Facial recognition works best for this price camera. Two faces can be recognized. When taking flash pictures of men and women, be careful. If you're too close, the flash will wash out your persons face. The metering system plus the flash output are most often separate, so there is not any TTL metering of this flash to limit the flash output. Also. red eye reduction shooting fires 4x vendor image is captured. The topics (especially small children) close their eyes and you also purchase a blink picture. Children mode completely suppresses the flash altogether.
The long as well as the in immediate need of it, I noticed the right mode to shoot in was pure manual mode, where I can set everything (with the histogram) in AiAE metering mode to capture an accurate exposure. It worked well with good tonal reproduction inside the final product. I'm posting some sample pictures utilizing this review. They represent a cross component of my experiences.
CS is responsive, unlike other companies available. Quality is sweet, but don't expect it to hang about pure torture. Overall, with the price I paid, the features as well as the picture quality, I happened upon an outstanding camera.

11/19/2010 Update
I get this camera now for just over 7 months and have absolutely taken about 3,000 pictures. If you accomodate this camera in manual mode with white balance and then the histogram setting the exposure, you aquire some great results.
Battery life's more great, no matter if while using flash. The NiMH "AA" batteries I've nets me about 300 pictures per lot of two, more than enough for a decent day's shoot.
The main complaint Relating to is the Auto Focus if you ever push this camera, especially when really it is bright outside, the AF do not set properly. You should wait for on screen focus indicator to turn green before you take the picture, or will probably be blurred. This camera fires as soon as the shutter is fully depressed whatever focus.
