The Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera now has a different, faster, even smaller bigger. Sibling rivalries aside, the 8.0 megapixel Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR adds resolution, speed, extra creative control, that has been enhanced peace of mind in the hand to just one for the smallest and lightest camcorders in the class. Kept in mind however its advancements in ergonomic design and technology, this easy to use EOS video camera is compatible with every one of Canon's EF lenses for example the EF S lenses.
Rebel With no Choice No More
The EOS Digital Rebel XT camera takes its place alongside the 6.3 megapixel EOS Digital Rebel camera that first placed a reasonable, high resolution digital SLR throughout the hands of Canon consumers. The EOS Digital Rebel XT model emerges by 50 percent kit configurations: with Canon's high quality EF S 18 55mm f3.5 f5.6 zoom lens (in matte black also in brushed silver) so that as an appearance only (in matte black and brushed silver).

The Rebel XT's image sensor has got the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, creating a strong angle of view that would be 1.6 times the ordinary EF lens's focal length. |
While most feature advancements and innovations on the new EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera are inherited from
Canon's EOS 20D "prosumer" SLR, both cameras' most striking technological similarities are their consumption of Canon's newly developed, large single plate, high sensitivity, high resolution color CMOS imaging sensor technology. As you move size of the APS C CMOS sensor at the EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR is fractionally smaller than the APS C CMOS sensor for the EOS 20D camera (22.2 x 14.8 millimeters versus 22.5 x 15.0 millimeters, respectively) accounting partly in the cameras' 8.0 vs. 8.2 megapixel resolution rating, individual pixel dimension is identical, so they both supply same effective angle of view, comparable to 1.6x an obvious EF lens focal length.
There are, obviously, some very real differences regarding the EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera and therefore the heightened EOS 20D. As the 20D SLR includes performance features similar to faster continuous shooting speed (5 frames per second [fps] vs. 3 fps) with larger burst capability (23 frames vs. 14 frames) and custom function settings (18 vs. 9) that more than justify its heftier price, this new Rebel XT model was given birth to for all dedicated SLR users who sadly are migrating to digital at last and desire to surrender the flexibility an SLR system offers.

Choose 1 point of focus or predictive autofocus, or direct your camera to produce the determination which consists of 7 point AF system. |
Autofocus Made EasyUtilizing the exact same 7 point autofocus system for the reason that EOS Digital Rebel camera, the revolutionary EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR is competent at analyzing in which a subject is even within the next off center and almost immediately bringing it into focus. Additionally , it may analyze subject movement and automatically select locking or tracking AF modes when needed. Gets into something simplify the camera's operation and optimize its performance. The Digital Rebel XT allows users select locking or tacking AF modes independently, adding an innovative dimension of creative control.
Finer Photos Faster
The new EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera can shoot up to 14 consecutive large/fine (8.0 megapixel) JPEGs, five RAW files, or four RAW + large/fine JPEGs for a price up to 3 fps. The EOS Digital Rebel camera's smaller buffer permits bursts of only four large/fine (6.3 megapixel) JPEG or RAW frames at a rate all the way to 2.5 fps.
While reprising the Digital Rebel SLR's ISO number of 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600, Canon raised the Auto ISO setting to the Digital Rebel XT model to 400 to help you improve image quality, reduce camera shake, and brighten the scene behind the topic when using a flash photo. The popular Digital Rebel XT camera even offers 12 exposure modes that happen to be user selectable along at the turn to a conveniently placed dial. The exposure modes Full Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close up, Sports, Night Portrait, Flash Off, Program AE, Shutter Speed Priority AE, Aperture Priority AE, Manual, and Auto Depth of Field AE take into consideration virtually all shooting conditions and preferences.
In addition to its lossless compression 8.0 megapixel RAW image file option, the Rebel XT Dslr offers users a choice of shooting during a collection of sizes and quality JPEG settings from large (8.0 megapixel) and medium (4.15 megapixel) to small (2.0 megapixel). Within each resolution option, anyone may possibly also select quality settings: large/fine, large/normal, medium/fine, medium/normal, small/fine, and small/normal.
RAW Power
What's more, as you move original Digital Rebel camera required dedicated software to extract embedded medium/fine resolution JPEGs from the larger, uncompressed RAW image file, the brand new Rebel XT model saves RAW and large/fine resolution images separate files within the CompactFlash card. You has the benefit of a choice of selecting RAW (8.0 megapixel) files only, saving valuable space in the CF card. Like with the EOS 20D, the Digital Rebel XT camera's RAW files are denoted via the CR2 extension.
Creative Control
Among the fresh new features on the EOS Digital Rebel XT camera are user selectable metering and AF modes, flash exposure compensation control, improved E TTL II evaluative flash metering, and, the first time in this particular product category, custom function control. Digital Rebel XT SLR even supplies a monochrome mode for consumers who benefit from the subtleties and shadings that only black and white images offer.
The Rebel XT camera incorporates nine of this Custom Functions previously that comes with the EOS 20D model. Built to fine tune camera operation depending on personal preferences, the custom functions offer users a group of programming choices for the SET button/cross keys, not to mention control over long exposure noise reduction, flash sync speed in AV mode, AF originate as the shutter button or AE lock button, AF assist beam, mirror lockup, E TTL II metering patterns, and shutter curtain sync.
All This and DIGIC II
Canon's newest most powerful SLR imaging engine, DIGIC II, provides high precision and broadband, natural color reproduction including high saturation, bright subjects, improved auto white balance, and increased white balance correction control and white balance bracketing covering the original Digital Rebel camera.
The white balance correction control can be a digital color filter that work well such as a light balancing filter or possibly a color compensating filter. Both the blue/amber bias additionally , the magenta/green bias are generally adjusted to +/ 9 levels. Since the blue/amber bias adjustment is standard at the original Digital Rebel model, the Rebel XT camera's additional magenta/green bias adjustment provides increased color compensation out of your earlier model.

The XT's DIGIC II image processor ensures natural colors, accurate white balance, and speedy write times. |
The Rebel XT SLR's white balance bracketing mode enables the digital camera to automatically take three images each shot snapped, each which has a different bias setting. An individual tend to be select the best shot and discard similar two. White balance bracketing doubles in combination with white balance correction. The good entire body white balance wizardry can be obtained from the photographs with colors captured accurately and precisely under a wide variety of conditions.
In addition into the legion of image quality improvements, DIGIC II quickens the camera's performance from startup, that is certainly Ten times faster for the EOS Digital Rebel XT model (0.2 seconds) as opposed to over the EOS Digital Rebel with the original iteration of DIGIC (2 seconds).
Another feature improved because of the presence of DIGIC II certainly is the speed of the direct printing function, and that is PictBridge compatible. DIGIC II also produces faster startup times, faster CompactFlash card writing speed, and approximately 10x faster data transfer speeds thanks to the processor's new USB 2.0 high speed interface. As a possible added bonus, the DIGIC II chip is extremely efficient, it really reduces the EOS Digital Rebel XT camera's power consumption (and extends battery) by approximately 35 percent. Indeed, this new Rebel XT camera is really energy efficient, it is usually powered because of the same lighter weight NB 2LH battery pack used by the PowerShot S60 (as opposed to the more expensive BP 511A battery pack spent on the very first Digital Rebel model).

Select 35 zone AF point evaluative metering, partial metering around the center of this image, or center weighted averaged metering. |
E TTL II: Exposure Control in a FlashThe new Rebel XT camera also features the next phase with the evolution of evaluative, through the lens exposure control, E TTL II. Though compatible with all Canon EX series Speedlites, this smarter new E TTL II system helps ensure that, there is situations with highly reflective subjects or backgrounds or when shooting in every other similarly difficult lighting situations, the image will probably be optimally exposed.
The E TTL II system compares the ambient light when using the reflected pre flash heli copter flight subject reported in all of the 35 metering zones and selects the areas which includes a small impact on be weighted for flash exposure calculation. The software likewise helps eliminate or underweight areas with large differences, recognizing them for extremely reflective object device or perhaps highly reflective subject.
Bundled Software
Both the Rebel XT Camera and lens kit along with body only kit are shipped with three software discs, including EOS Digital Solutions Disc 10 featuring ZoomBrowser EX, ImageBrowser, and ArcSoft PhotoStudio and also other utilities; another disc containing Digital Photo Professional 1.6 for RAW file conversions; along with a third disc containing PDF versions within the instruction manuals from each application.

3.0 using 5 stars Nice point and shoot for price, but has drawbacks, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Nikon Coolpix S210 8.0MP Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Graphite Black) (Electronics)
This certainly is the very first time that I bought new things in the marketplace. Typically, I order something after it has been reviewed for a minimum of 6 months, but We to exchange the "family point and shoot" before Easter. I have been replacing my old Nikon Coolpix 5900 (which has been a tad bulky, but took FANTASTIC photos). Also i loved flick quality. I stayed while using the Nikon family because it's whatever i know, and I just am not equipped to pay a great deal of for ones Canon lines (and that i abhor the photo quality can't explain, but I enjoy my Nikon better).
I got you Two weeks ago, for that reason far Over the internet:
1) That it can be incredibly small that could be bad and good. It may well go anywhere, but holding it making you kind of nervous, like you could drop it easily.
2)The larger viewscreen is large, and i also am very worried we may drop it and shatter it easily. The camera itself is very smooth, and feels "slippery" with you.
3) Normally the one complaint that we know I even had with my old Nikon shutter/recovery time is slow within this camera you can not just "click" away. This is simply not so nice when you've got fidgety children, and you simply choose to capture an instant.
4) The scene/mode setup has slightly changed in my situation, and then be able to some other "mode", it's not possible to just turn the dial, like Used to do about the old 5900, you will want to push a few more buttons. This can be tedious if you find yourself moving from different environments, and want to alter the settings.
5) The most important complaint I had is the fact this camera is provides a very sensitive at autofocusing, and according to whatever i have seen at this point, it will not take pictures closeup if you don't actually set it from the macro mode.
I don't think I most certainly will give it back because I have found that unfortunately, these new old digital cameras don't appear to last, and I won't invest over $200 for your point and shoot. This is certainly perfect for quick shots as you are on the go, allowing it to slot in your back pocket. For that better photos, I personally use my D80 (it can be a dream).
4/4/08 UPDATE I have used the digital camera a tad bit more. We've noted that:
1) to access the shots to come out, an individual be required to become quite knowledgeable with how to adjust your settings (exposure compensation, mode, source of light, white balance, etc.) Look into the MANUAL, and employ. Whenever you figure that out, your pictures are fine. This definitely does obtain little tedius when you're endeavouring to capture that moment with fidgeting subjects (i.e. children & animals).
2) Also, the movies are not MPG's anymore they are from the AVI format. They still result fine, and the mic is SUPERSENSITIVE
3) The latch for ones battery compartment remains to be the same this worries me as this is what failed on my 5900, (and my mom's Canon). Once that shut off, (which made vacation), the digital camera was never the exact (i.e. beach air, sand, AC one does the math). You should think make use of them fix this issue, but What i'm seeing it with not one line, but others as well.
4) That's not me the proper fan of the way you switch from regular camera, to somewhat of a specific scene (i.e. indoors, niteshots, etc), to movie mode. You'll want to push a MODE button, scroll, and next push OK. The buttons relating to the back are the same as my old 5900, even a bit of smaller (men with big fingers gets annoyed easily).
5) The on/off button is TINY as well as right in beside the button that you use to try the photos/and take videos (towards the top of your camera). Honestly, I confuse them now and then, and may turn you off photographs wish to find a video.
All in every,Merely could do again, I wouldn't go ultracompact and would go small. It serves it's purpose, fresh fruits you are getting what you may settled.
UPDATE 1/9/09: By September 08, I needed to find another camera because one decided to take apart on his dad vacation My group is TRULY not only a fan these camera (the Lens just decide to not open and close). I can just design it for my 4 yr old, and let her fool around with it. I gambled and also the waterproof Pentax, as a result far, I'm sure pleased (not elated, but shall be satisfied in the meantime).
