This review is from: JVC GZ HM1 High Definition Camcorder (Electronics) After very wary study and consideration throughout the last almost a year, To begin with . to go forward and accompany this JVC GZ HM1 as opposed to the Canon HF S21 or Sony HDR CX550V. One of my main concerns was low light shooting. Although I think that both the Canon and JVC to remain similar on their great quality picture during normal lighting conditions, unfortunately, the canon eos does not possess a backlit CMOS sensor introduced the year 2010 by JVC, and numbers by Sony. In the final, I'd been left debating between this JVC and the Sony. The Sony has a larger etc beautiful 3.5" touch display, in opposition to both the.8" display in the JVC (the JVC uses nice touch sensitive buttons, which retain the screen neat and smudge free, also the best feature). Also, the Sony offers more automated features for novice users. I attended a local camera store, and tested both units by using a very high quality HD display and connected both camcorders via HDMI. The standard and clarity with the image within the JVC unit was far, far, superior, and text/minute details for a far distance that weren't legible at the Sony, were clearly legible for the JVC. The manual controls, and physical button layout, in addition to awesome zoom rocker, really set the JVC apart from the Sony. The overall sensation is the factthat the Sony model was packed with gimmicks, and built to be "idiot proof", as you move JVC was designed turn out to be controlled from the user, as well as being fantastic for an individual who isn't frightened of manual controls (not saying that your automatic mode isn't good).
