5.0 due to 5 stars Dimage X50 is going to do some serious "damage" to the competition!, September 22, 2004
This review is from: Konica Minolta Dimage X50 5MP Digicam with 2.8x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I just purchased this AWESOME ultracompact dslr camera from my local camera store. We're by no means just starting out to photo digital portrait photography. I purchased my 1st photographic camera (Nikon Coolpix 990) over 4 common just for under a thousand dollars. Even though it took great pictures, it had been too bulky together with a bit too easy modify the settings within the camera. My 2nd video camera would have been a SONY Mavica that you TERRIBLE photo quality. My 3rd camera was canon's S50 that is very well thought of butI had 3 complications of it 1. It had become too bulky to toss into my pocket. 2. The toggle switches would definitely be a pain to work (they eliminated them for ones S60/70) 3. I became not blown away through the photo quality. In reality, It looks like my Nikon Coolpix took better indoor pictures therefore it only had 3 (vs 5) mega pixels! Relating to heard that Nikon utilizes the best photo lenses in the which trigger great looking pictures. We were taking into consideration getting the Nikon Coolpix 3200 However the shutter speed is much too slow! And has an affordable, plastic body. Then I read Mossberg's review of the Dimage X50 during the Wall Street Journal and was very intrigued. So, I headed to my local camera store and bought it (they have a 7 day return/exchange policy). I took a handful of pictures of my baby both indoors and out, and that i was VERY IMPRESSED aided by the photo quality (in a camera this tiny)*.
UPDATE:
*Some reviewers hated "noisy" pictures. You'll have to factor that in taking a look at an electronic camera purchase. When you need pictures devoid of noise, then you definitely need to take a much bigger camera much like the Canon A95 or Sony W1. Also, I don;t recommend buying an ultracompact camera as the primary or sole camera. They're best for taking to parties or tossing them in the bag to capture spontaneous life moments. You ought not expect an ultacompact to deliver museum quality pictures it's hardly possible. I really are convinced the XS50 offers among the finest photo quality in the world of ultracompacts.
Besides the high photo quality, there is A LOT Irrrm a sucker for about my 4th photographic camera. 1st, the amount is incredible esp. when you consider the picture quality, TINY size, and zoom capability. I'm sure it's a really STEAL! 2nd, one and only thing I disagree with Mossberg is always he didn't think it looked very "sleek". I really like the all metal design aside from the viewfinder, you shall not find any cheap plastic parts. Maybe the A/V out incorporates a tiny metal door that slides around. To never be anti American made but it is obvious the fact that is made in Japan. It could be extremely Basic use the buttons are extremely intuitive. I have got yet to compromise open the manual. It also creates a soothing "ding" sound in case the picture is focus (nope loud or annoying) and that means you are assured an incredible picture! Though it may be very tiny, the lay out is incredible rarely are TOGGLE SWITCHES. Last but not least, which includes a 2" LCD monitor is incredibly helpful (and fun). Don't squint right tiny viewfinder! The combined 12x zoom is extremely COOL it's similsr to a new submarine telescope and doesn't protude !
The only thing I'm not in love with is always it the actual proprietary battery but it's required to last for over the 150 pictures and making use of "AA" batteries can have added excessive bulk. Overall,
I am THRILLED utilizing this type of camera! I finally got (almost) EVERYTHING I'd been in need of within an ultracompact digital camera Excellent photo quality, being user friendly, tiny size, as well as a really quick SHUTTER SPEED for a great price. As well on earth do you want? Well, perhaps a bigger memory card : )
