5.0 outside 5 stars First Pentax Provides you with without reservation, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Pentax K2000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18 55mm f/3.5 5.6 DA L Lens and AF200FG Flash (Electronics)
Pros:
High quality (sturdy feeling)
Well designed
Superb Image quality
No pattern noise at high ISOs (looks more like film grain)
In body image stabilization
Cons:
No image orientation sensor (for those who hold portrait style must manually rotate)
No red focus confirmation dot (really has green dot in viewfinder at bottom)
Who should buy the K2000? Anyone also considering novice Nikon or Canon DSLRs. This is often fully competitive, but offers in body image stabilization that fits with any lens (old and new). Nice feature set in a great value.
The auto focus of your camera is improved, focusing more precisely in low light than previous Pentax models, along with harmonizes with the new SDM lenses. Auto white balance can also be improved. It does more suitable under tungsten light than some previous Pentax cameras.
The shake reduction is effective, that much if you want most in lens systems. About 3 f stops to do. It is a handy feature so it works together ALL lenses. You will not keep purchasing the same feature for $100 to $500 everytime you obtain a lens that you can want stabilization. It goes without mention, if your new body shoot out you can get a better stabilizer. That has an in lens system, you'll have to replace your lenses for getting improved stabilizers.
Even though this may be a no frills system, it is relatively capable for those advanced amateurs or pro's searching for a compact body to utilise together with the Pentax Limited prime lenses (compact lenses offering outstanding image quality). The major two haven't invested many resources in prime lenses to suit APS C sensors (by far and away the most beneficial selling dSLRs), Pentax has bucked that is a trend by their superb DA Limited series lenses.
Image quality is outstanding. I oftentimes tried it on a studio shoot recently, along no issue. My only complaints were a defieicency of user selectable focus points (besides all or center only) and absence of orientation sensor. In most cases these folks were all to easy to deal with. The picture effects were stunning, even nearly ISO 800. By 1600 there sets out to certainly be a fair magnitude of noise, but there is no pattern to it (my K20d has awful horizontal pattern noise). These photos are highly made for B&W conversion, plus they resemble very fast film quite as good as many old digital cameras.
In conclusion, you see a great number of bang available for you buck in such a camera. The bundled AF200FG flash is really good as opposed to any inbuilt flash offering greater range, better fill, and being off camera helps reduce red eye and shadowing from lenses. The kit lens is very useful at apertures 5.6 if not more at any focal length (it can be a tad soft at the corners at wide angles at apertures larger (smaller number) than f/5.6. I mounted it for the K20d therefore it had no problems resolving with the higher resolution sensor. I propose this without many reservations (see my cons), along with a starter or enthusiast this is the great little camera. With my review title, it's the very first time I sense at ease to recommend a Pentax with a non DSLR user (previously they are better enthusiast, non beginner models).
Update One: First range batteries that came with the camera have an overabundance of than 1000 shots to them, these types of considering the flash. It's truly amazing life of the battery, especially considering simply how much your back LCD is illuminated (no top information display). The best selection last many users one year!
The only other small things Concerning noticed will there ever be is limited slot for just a cable remote and then the back LCD is generally bright. This camera couldn't survive the right for star trails for example, but that should only impact a % of users.
I still think itrrrs great!
