Dumbfounded by its deluge of digicams? Spending more of their time obsessing that digicam to shop for, above took action today buying the home? Such as the fact you frequently fall in love with this no wonder but are turned off by its fact it's merely a 2 megapixel camera? Fear not concerning megapixels. The Lumix FZ1/FZ2 is rightfully developing a good cult following with consumers, professional photographers, as well as professional photographers (read "FZ 1: A Pro Level Digital Point & Shoot" by Frank Van Ripper on the Washington Post available on line at CameraWorks.com) Privided you can live without more megapixels, this compact camera has so much to offer you. 2MP is than you absolutely need for PC viewing, e mail, and the web. It may possibly and can give sufficient resolution for making excellent photo quality prints as many as 5X7, and supposedly makes nice enlargements about 8X10.

This is mostly a compact, responsive, point and shoot camera which has a robust set of features including a competent burst mode (ideal for sports action shots not available on cameras within this class), and true TTL framing via an EVF. There's enough to this camera to satiate the enthusiast night portrait, portrait, panning, "normal" mode etc., along with possesses a fully automated mode if you desire to allow camera do everything, and just "focus" (pardon the pun) on composition. But what sets this digicam apart may be the big zoom fixed Leica lens. It is really a word class bit of glass with remarkable specs, especially considering its size. Combine this remarkable lens which has an effective image stabilization system, and a "different animal" overall. This can be a unique versitile and fun digicam with more options than others inside cost structure. Its limitations (weak pop up flash, EVF reduces in low light, noise above ISO 200, etc) are really more because of its class ($300 compact digital) compared to a camera. However, it happens to be ideal for producing remarkable images, so when you start out shooting featuring superior lens which has an IS system, you may never want to know a camera has not got them. Plus, costly excellent value. Should you not perform a wide range of enlargements or cropping in any photo editor, An excellent opportunity the FZ1 in any heartbeat over every camera, no matter the wide variety of megapixels, in the cost range, many cameras that cost two or three times just as much.

Now anything about megapixels. A megapixel is 1 million pixels (they're the limited squares that comprise the...). So, this camera produces images which have been 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. 1600X1200 = approx Two million, hence 2 megapixels. Since going digital, I know that I view 90% 95% on my PC/laptop monitor. It's convenient, and priting all your bookmarked websites would cost you a small fortune, since considering that I'm able to snap away with wreckless abandon since film (for me personally) is usually a subject put to rest. (I still make use of a lab to print. Appraisal rather "borrow" the lab's $200,000 printer than own a $300 dollar consumer photo printer, plus it costs much less per print any time you take into account the price tag on the printer ink...) Okay, so my laptop's highest 32 bit resolution setting is 1024X768, the resolution on the FZ1 (1600X1200) exceeds that. Point is this since I view a lot of my pictures over a PC now, I gain NOTHING by a higher resolution camera to learn megapixels to all circumstances. The 5% to 10% of pictures I print, It's my job to print at standard 6X4. Anything over 200 pixels per inch (ppi) is known "photo quality" for printing, 150 ppi is recognized as "acceptable". As you grow beyond 250 ppi on a print, the variations in resolution using a normal viewing distance are virtually invisible to the naked eye. IMO, Phoning fail a blind test, probably, if asked to guess the resolution of an picture relating to the 200 and 250 ppi range. 1600 (pixels)/6(inches) = 267 ppi, exceeding 250 ppi long using a 6X4 (Note: technically, this formula isn't entirely accurate but is close enough for government work, and serves better as the quick illustration...). A 5X7 is 228 ppi, and an 8X10 is 160 ppi. Hence, this camera produces "photo quality" images close to 5X7 and "acceptable" resolution as long as 8X10. Most photo editors worth their disk space, like Photoshop, can resample images using bicubic interpolation so as to add pixels and boost resolution for the (very) occasional larger print. A good product to do this is Qimage, a free trial can be purchased, and it's quite inexpensive to find. A hot shoe can have been nice but my understanding is that a "digital slave flash", which you'll find quite affordable, like the Vivitar AF200, work perfectly when you really need a major flash.

Now consider, not only a "scientific survey" but A few folks Actually , i know own 3 to 5 megapixel cameras. (The 5 megapixel guy is known for a 10X optical zoom camera, given by on the list of usual suspects, that cost 2X even though the FZ1, but he doesn't even attempt zooming out beyond 5X without blurring the look, since his camera won't have IS). Carry out kept their cameras about the highest setting thereby "using" all the megapixels. Why? Because larger image files cut as much pictures they will store on the flash cards by 50 percent, their camera annoyingly "locks up" on a couple seconds even though it writes a more substantial image file (often very frustrating), and so they really can't notice an improvement in quality on their prints, where they view virtually all of their pictures on the PC. For example you have a 6 megapixel camera who had an inexpensive lens that introduced lots of different distortion along with a processing engine that rendered inaccurate colors. What can you obtain? A crappy picture with distortion and inaccurate colors rendered in most their ugly glory in hd. The FZ1 delivers the "best" lens in the marketplace, and a good, innovative processing engine which offers "enough" yet not "extraneous" megapixels to produce photoquality resolution for 99% of "real world" viewing formats. I really believe that camera companies are exploiting the conspicuous consumption factor of camera consumers who wear their camera around their neck like jewelery. (The "name" + many megapixels = "the guy" same as a pearl necklace to wear even on a particular date). It is therefore an excellent way in the camera co's to (finally) introduce planned obsolence in offerings, dispensing while using the days when folks held upon their cameras for decades until they finally died. I'm glad a minumum of one manufacturer withdrew belonging to the "great megapixel wars" and offered a superb product based around real user needs as well as the true a look at the full range of accessible technology like IS will be processing engine, and accomplished it within a very reasonable cost, instead of being just another combatant exploiting one aspect "the megapixel", and then the conspicuous consumption factor.
