4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but look a little higher!, May 9, 2010
This review is from: Panasonic Lumix DMC FP1 12.1 MP Digicam with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and two.7 Inch LCD (Black) (Electronics)
This camera is overall pretty decent and has now a competitive MSRP. However, make sure to find the older but higher end
Panasonic Lumix DMC FP8. When Panasonic brought out the latest FP1 and FP3 (the touchscreen version within the FP1), We were hoping they'd really do the just like the well reviewed FP8 however with a greater look in addition to a lens cover. Well, I am slightly disappointed.
Let's your investment gimmicky touchscreen FP3 and compare the FP1 into the FP8. The FP1 is $40 cheaper rrn comparison to the FP8 regarding rate (since once i wrote this review) nonetheless it has:
0.6x less zoom (4.0x instead of 4.6x)
Mega OIS and not Power OIS (Panasonic claims Power is 2x better, maybe dubious)
No wide angle lens (35mm rrnstead of 28mm)
80 shots less per battery charge (300 rather then 380)
No zoom during video recording
Personally, that last drawback breaks the deal in my position when i need the best video recording experience possible (and I have found the fact that the FP8 maintain a pool of best 720p quality in point and shoot cameras under $200). But it is for you to decide on whether those drawbacks are worth the $40 savings.
