The DMC LX2 inherits the f2.8 28mm wide angle Leica DC lens, 4x optical zoom (akin to 28 112mm with a 35mm film camera), and Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system besides an enhanced CCD capable of taking images at 10.2 megapixel resolution, besides a bigger, 2.8 inch 16:9 wide LCD.

The DMC LX2 is unique during that it incorporates three "wide" features: a 28mm wide angle Leica DC lens, 16:9 wide CCD, and 16:9 wide LCD. Furthermore, the LX2 is further distinguished from other cameras by its full manual controllability accompanied by a joystick allowing users to simply enjoy creative shooting. The DMC LX2 also possesses a Venus Engine III high performance image processing LSI to dramatically lessen the noise that challenged the predecessor, realizing image recording at maximum ISO 1600 high sensitivity setting at full resolution.

To deal with difficulties grounds for blurred images, Panasonic invented the Mega O.I.S. system, for benefiting from its superior lens technology to compensate for handshake. Plus, also to catch up on similar major risk factor for blurred images movement within the subject the LX2 can also be loaded our planet's first Intelligent ISO Control (hereafter I.I.C.) and high sensitivity recording capabilities, up to and including maximum ISO of 1600, in the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine III. When set on the I.I.C., the Venus Engine III detects the subject's movement and adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to be perfect for the topic movement along with the light condition automatically. Panasonic's excellent image stabilizing system allows users taking clear, crisp images in different situation, leaving everything for the camera.

The Lumix LX series are distinct from other compact cameras in the way they feature extensive manual controls including manual focus and manual exposure which is often smoothly operated which has a joystick. This joystick further provides operation shortcuts with the frequently used settings including white balance, ISO, image size, compression format, light metering, and AF mode by way of pressing and holding it. You'll find it allows exposure compensation and choice of one beyond nine focusing areas.

The aspect ratio is definitely selectable between 16:9 wide, 3:2, and conventional 4:3 with a switch possitioned on the top of lens barrel to shoot with the framing aspect that is best suited for the subjects' composition or image's intent behind use.

In addition, the DMC LX2 is able to recording wide 16:9 harley davidson (1280 x 720) motion image at 15 fps (fps).

The Lumix DMC LX2 is actually experienced before compact camera, enabling both high end amateurs and entry level users to explore the creativeness that surely enhances the practical benefits of shooting.

10.2 Megapixel 16:9 Aspect CCD and f2.8 28mm Wide Angle 4x Optical Zoom Leica DC Lens
The DMC LX2 boasts a 10.2 megapixel 16:9 aspect CCD and f2.8 4x optical zoom 28mm wide angle (similar to 28 112mm about the 35mm film camera) Leica DC Vario Elmarit lens. Incorporating three aspherical lenses provides high optical performance while preserving the compactness in the unit. The aspect ratio can be simply selected between 16:9 or 3:2 much better conventional 4:3 which includes a switch on the lens barrel for the shot by shot basis to are perfect for the composition of one's image. Despite shooting, the 16:9 ratio is usually converted to 3:2 or 4:3 in the camera in keeping with your own personal purpose of usage.

The Extended Optical Zoom, authorized along with center a natural part of 10.2 megapixel hi res CCD, further extends the zoom ratio to 5.5x for 5 megapixel image recording in 16:9 aspect with minimal deterioration.

Lumix's Image Stabilizing System Evolves
Taking benefit from its superior lens technology, Panasonic invented the Mega O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) to combat with the key grounds for blurred images. It compensates for handshake and is now featured relating to the entire Lumix range, and being previously highly evaluated and appreciated through the users globally. Every slight hand shake movement is detected accurately in the sampling frequency at 4,000 times per second and will be compensated to render clear, sharp images. Aside from that, movement in the subject, the additional major root cause of blurred images, is suppressed with the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine III aided by the Intelligent ISO Control (hereafter I.I.C.) and maximum ISO of 1600. The earth's first incorporation on this I.I.C. allows the automated adjustment of one's suitable ISO setting and shutter speed that meets your situation by analyzing the velocity of subject movement. If the subject is moving, the ISO setting would automatically rise to make high shutter speed. Having said that, in case the subject holds resulting in nil movement is detected, you'll be able to take beautiful natural images having a low ISO setting.

Accordingly the modern Lumix automatically takes the top countermeasures against any reasons behind blurred images with Mega O.I.S. compensating for hand shake as well as I.I.C. compensating for movement belonging to the subject. Image stabilizing device is further evolving with Lumix.

Dramatically Reduced Noise with Venus Engine III
The DMC LX2 adopts the Venus Engine III to obtain high sensitivity recording at maximum ISO 1600 at full resolution. The noise reduction method is greatly improved by removing noise inside the processing stages in series. First, critical noise is roughly undraped plus the chromatic noise as well as the luminance noise are separated to respectively go through the supplemental noise reduction process so the remaining noise is appropriately minimized.

Despite the significantly increased performance within the camera, the Venus Engine III consumes only 80% in the power as used by the Venus Engine II as well as being in a position to achieve a prolonged battery of 300 pictures (CIPA) using one charge. Using its multi task image processing capability, the Venus Engine III also boasts outstanding response time accompanied by a shutter release time lag of as short as 0.009 seconds. minimum as well as shutter interval of 0.6 seconds. The DMC LX2 enables easy capture these spur of the moment shots. The DMC LX2 also allows unlimited consecutive shooting as much the capacity of the SD/SDHC memory card.

The easy to use joystick operation and good design, of organ of the highly acclaimed trademarks belonging to the predecessor, are inherited by the DMC LX2. The joystick was incorporated to facilitate operational ease and thereby acquire the best technical advantage of the large number of functions supplied by the digital camera. Using the joystick you can actually set focus and exposure manually, as well as quickly shortcut to used often variables by simply pressing and holding the joystick even while monitoring a topic for the LCD. The predecessor LX1 contained white balance adjustment, ISO setting, image size setting and compression format in its bristling shortcut menu, as well as the light metering and AF mode settings can be added to your new LX2. It also allows the exposure compensation and options of one using nine focusing areas.

A first turn on the medial side with the lens barrel helps you quickly change the focus mode between MF, AF or Macro AF. Should you focus on the Manual Focus mode, not simply the main focus distance but will also the DOF (depth of field) in accordance with the zoom range and aperture is displayed. An MF assist function enlarges the centre of the picture to produce focusing easier. The focusing area could be enlarged as many as 4x and is movable, that also assures easy and comfortable manual focusing.

Crystal Clear, Large 16:9 2.8 Inch LCD
To express the very best of the extensive 16:9 wide image recording, a 2.8 inch wide and enormous 207 k hi res LCD is newly equipped. The pixel mixed readout method performed around the CCD achieves high sensitivity to make available sufficient brightness for straightforward shooting even low lit situations. The action LCD function raises the brightness level by 40% to secure clear view in sunny outdoors. The High Angle mode definitely makes the display extremely uncomplicated to view from low angles, like, when holding the camera at any height to try pictures using a crowd and that can be accessed easily and quickly utilize the dedicated button.

High Definition 16:9 Wide Motion Image Recording
The DMC LX2 is able to recording the 4:3 VGA (640 x 480) and 16:9 wide VGA (848 x 480) motion image recording at 30 fps. Shooting are a few things but viewing is an additional, and will also be suitably stunned at the 16:9 moving image over the following few displayed on a wide screen TV. On top of that, the LX2 can record motion images in hi def (1280 x 720) format at 15 fps. The pixel mixed readout method assists the bright motion image recording in low lit situation.

Faster Autofocus
The AF mode could be selected depending on the shooting situation: 9 point, 3 point broadband internet, 1 point top speed, 1 point normal speed and Spot. 5.0 because of 5 stars A real gem of the camera ... but don't expect image quality miracles, September 27, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Panasonic DMC LX3 10.1MP Camcorder with 24mm Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) (Electronics)
In a final 6 years I've used a couple of compacts which I've since eliminated after upgrading to DSLRs (Canon XT then 40D). For some time I seemed to be delays for a compressed that could carry with me anywhere I would like, and particularly to parties or other social occasions where bringing a DSLR really is no option.
When this camera was announced it really looks like a dream compact in my opinion. Fast, wide and optically stabilized lens is good for low light indoor shots. The planning is stylish and beautiful, you is reasonably compact and contains lots of controls a semi pro amateur would want.
Further the sensor is basically as huge as they get into compact cameras sufficient reason for almost reasonable 10mp (still about 5mp a lot of except badly as 12 15mp you can find in a other compact by having a comparable sensor).
I've had the camera for a few weeks now (and shame on Amazon because of not having it handy monthly after it appeared in most other big stores). I'm keen it a great deal and the camera delivers on most of Panny's promises. Areas on the experiences.
1. The actual quality is obviously and noticeably greater than the ulracompact cameras (like Panny's own FX series). It will be however still a compact camera ... meaning there is always visible noise even at ISO 80 and quite enough noise at ISO 400. However noise reduction algorithms are generally doing quite a good job and ISO 80 pics look very nice ... sometimes almost such as DSLR. As well as at ISO 400 most shots are fantastic enough which keeps. In general the output created by camera is just like my 40D at 8 times the ISO (that's 80 on LX3 is concerning 640 on 40D and 400 LX3 is a bit much better than 3200 on 40D). Fortunately, with fast lens and image stabilization I almost never must use ISO above 400.
2. The camera could be very responsive additionally , the autofocus is fast and seems accurate.
3. Changing ISO from the menus is a bit to a pain but a number of useful ISO regimes are offered. Typically controlling lots of the options shouldn't be very easy ... but Just maybe beneficial side . compromise you will enjoy with a great small camera which has a large LCD.
Update: you're able to simplify ISO changing by reassigning submit for this specific purpose. The drawback of this is often that now reviewing pictures gets to be more cumbersome.
4. Aspect ratio turn on the lens is a lot more useful than I was thinking ... saves quite a lot of cropping.
5. Shooting in RAW+jpeg is fast enough for being usable.
6. You can be quite somewhat bulkier than it would seem (plus the given size is misleading simply because they really do not add the lens along with protrusions on the main system of the body). This is not shirt pocketable both due to its weight and size ... but fits fine in the pocket or purse.
7. The macro capacity of your camera actually is excellent.
8. Having user customizable preset regimes around the dial is incredibly useful and quite a luxury not present even on Canon XSi DSLR (shame on Canon!)

Overall it's actually a great compact camera: i think certainly the perfect that can be found by way of margin (I've studied this marketplace very thoroughly). It truly is on the same league as Canon G series (that we owned when people were the best and liked quite a lot) but fits my current needs even more than the Canon Gx. Through experience i think it's actually a real bargain at around $400.
But it's still a compressed camera which has a sensor 1/8 sort of most DSLRs and 1/20 of full frame (mostly pro) DSLR. So those expecting miracles like close to DSLR quality or usable ISO 800+ can be disappointed.

A quick update in reaction to somewhat of a comment:
1. At widest setting of this zoom there may be quite significant distortion especially noticeable in 16:9 regime. Addititionally there is noticeable decrease in sharpness from the corners. This will likely not look great in certain shots (like should a straight like or someones face is nearby the border) but nothing difficulty . for most of one's shots.
2. HD video is rather best to a concise. There is no zooming, no auto focus and sometimes exposure adjustments may not be very smooth. So I'd not recommend to deal with it as a camcorder. But overall it gives detailed and reasonably smooth video (well nearly 30fps smooth). I've just made a quick comparison with Canon HF10 dedicated compact camcorder (that's pretty much they get nowadays). In bright light LX3 cannot quite match the 1080p detail of Canon. Playing with relatively dim light it is about of the same quality. Also LX3 contains a huge advantage in wide angle. All dedicated consumer camcorders have widest angle around 40mm that could be much worse than 24mm of LX3.

Another impression which I have with LX3 and certainly don't have with other compacts usually it is a tool worth learning and investing efforts and experimentation. My pics using this type of camera keep improving even the first ones were already decent.

=======================================================================
Update Dec 17: Finally Photoshop and Lightroom begun to recognize LX3 raws. The standard of my pictures has become even higher: colors way more pleasing and noise reduction less "blotchy". Overall this camera gives results well beyond whatever thought of as simple for a concise camera. It retains my highest recommendation.

Update Jan 27, 2009.
The single most annoying thing about this camera is its lens cap. Requiring you to get rid of it slows you down. Attaching in a string leaves it dangling ... which discounts the aesthetics of one's camera that will put in a little bit of extra shake. But without the string it's almost certainly going to wander off ... and that i are yet to seen any replacements on sale. Anyway, fortunately, creative peoples came upon that Ricoh LC 1 lens adapter can be easily modified to get used on this camera. I've did this and delay greater than the original cap. I've uploaded some pictures belonging to the give you the information images. Use google to determine the modification instructions.
