5.0 due to 5 stars Olympus Stylus 840, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Olympus Stylus 840 8 MP Camera with 5x Optical Dual Image Stabilized Zoom (Blue) (Electronics)
I too, paid dreaded retail at BB. I knew the associated fee would drop soon, but I needed your camera once. No regrets.
This camera is seen as a darker shade of (cobalt)blue rrn comparison to the photo shows. IMHO it's a much nicer shade. I have numerous comments on it is great looks.
BTW, this camera Takes SD memory, the Micro kind. I returned the weird Olympus memory once I realised you uses a MicroSD chip. I got myself a 2GIG for 15 dollars. The good thing regarding the MicroSD is that you simply have no reason to tote you got it in an internet cafe to DL pictures remember when you are on a break.
Just slap the chip (with all the supplied adapter)into a Kingston Data Traveler Reader (20 dollars, and is also a stand alone 2GIG thumb also!). No requirement for any software. Just use Windows. Microsoft has a cool free (and small)utility called Power Toys Image Resizer that installs on any PC with XP. Just correct check out any image (or hold shift key and click on for just a series) and "Bob's Your Uncle", your pix are resized to email to friends or blogs.
I love you and also extra optical zoom available. The Super Macro mode is incredible for any compact camera. Extremely close and sharp images which can be made even much closer digitally on your computer. It is possible to focus a try after it is usually taken within the camera to discover exactly how well the look holds up. Amazing. Note:Stay away from trembling camera for macro work. The look stabilizer just isn't going to help much here.
The camera is advertised a "splash proof". This can be so in the controls, but the battery compartment does not have any rubber seals. Still, it was considered for me purchasing this camera. I vacation in Thailand where it might be wet occasionally. Olympus does is really a water proof/shock proof (resistant, really) camera for a whole lot more money using out all the 840's features.
The controls are intuitive for any person during the digital age. I haven't even cracked the manual open yet. I anticipate to make out the print sometime to educate yourself regarding all of the features. But a long way I've been allowed to access plenty of just by myself aided by the straightforward navigate menu. I haven't yet bothered to load the program on my PC yet. To date all my needs are increasingly being met by Windows. I'll understand to barefoot jogging eventually. The idea Now i'm attempting to make is that gardeners can more or less charge it, take some pictures, DL these to your personal machine, and email these people out being required to investigate the manual or mess with Olympus software. I'm keen on that. The camera syncs right develop windows utilizing the supplied USB cord.
The Olympus charger takes 5 hours that is definitely dismal. Except to fret, search for here on Amazon and you will find DIRT cheap spare batteries and 1 hour quick chargers (despite a cigarette lighter adapter).
EDIT: They lied. The charger takes identical timeframe, however it is smaller sized, so not just a total loss. Spare battery seems fine.
I highly recommend requirements soft case I aquired. A Lowepro Rezo 20 soft case with a pocket for spare battery. It possesses a great snap and Velcro belt loop that may be belonging to any back pack strap or fanny pack with your belt. Very handy and inexpensive. Ensure you take advantage of the newer, improved model while using extra security of your snap in addition to Velcro on the belt loop.
For that amount of money There's no doubt that often the best camera image wise, but only if you ought to make huge prints. As well as other cameras don't appear in cool blue either! Nor have they got the combination on the Super Macro mode, 5X optical zoom, and splash resistance.
Coming out right about now, is Olympus's other Stylus cameras with 7X optical zoom. An abundance of funds, slightly bigger and heavier. But worth a glance.
Even though I paid about 30 dollars an excessive amount We are happy this particular camera and expect you'll be for a short time.
This is my first review on Amazon. i think you'll thought it was helpful.
