5.0 of 5 stars It is classy also it takes great pictures, March 13, 2010
I will try to share with you specific things I've got discovered in regards to this camera, these are my thoughts, Pertaining to they are of help .
Some things I am compairing for a canon SD1200 and then the SD940, SD1400.
I avoid the use of the viedo enough to guage that system of the cameras.
** No SD storage device offered with this camera **, see below
* Many will miss a person's eye viewfinder the fact that SD1200 has.
* Many will miss the HD 720p while in the movie mode the fact that SD940,SD1400 has, The SD1300 has 640x480 at 30fps just like the canon SD1200, G11 and S90.
* The SD1300 has ( no optical zoom while recording video ) just zoom.
* You will find there's date feature at the SD1300, see below
* The flat button arangement is the same as the SD1200 basically the (( Power Button )) on the top is larger and easier to turn off and on, I really like that ( but be mindful ) quite simple can happen for you, purse maybe in your soft camera case.
* I have not had any risk using some of the buttons despite my big old hands. The flat buttons over the SD1300 would be a ( tad bigger than at the SD940 and SD1400 ).
* Recption menus screens are large and also set up and employ.*
* You recruit a 2.7inch obvious LCD screen featuring a (superb and wide viewing angle everywhere).
Note > if your LCD screen is determined to a lower brightness you are able to push and hold down the display button for 1 second but it will demand brightest setting and try this again but it will surely get back the fewer setting...
A 28mm x 112mm lens, a little bit a lot better than the 35 x 105 in the SD1200 ( But no view finder on the SD1300 ).
* The SD1300 could be very user friendly and small enough to sling every place you go searching for those spontaneous grand kid pictures such as the SD 1200 was .
Just a great basic camera.
* I appreciate the fact that mic for that video is with the front of this camera in place of located on the top end (where I put my finger) like the canon SD970 and the like, it covers less finger movement noise with regards to top.
** Timing and Performance** ( Using program mode )> Extremely fast start up time of approximately 1 sec.
I aren't able to tell any difference in shot to shot or flash shot to shot times between SD1300 and also SD1200 with these while in the program mode, which is certainly ( 2secs devoid of the flash ), and 3 to 4secs with the flash on, (( as many as 6secs for full flash recharge )).
(Update > A few of review sites(C NET) have become around 2.7 to three seconds for those SD1300 between shots while not the flash therefore i grabed the two cameras and tryed both of them again(SD1300 SD1200) with sufficient reason for from flash on and I had the equivalent results for both, ((I often went program mode)) both times so they would focus and recharge the flash evenly also...)
Shutter lag is perfect for a canon point and shoot however if you ( pre focus ) which can help extremely. To pre focas > > Push shutter button down midway untill camera beeps and green square apears on LCD screen, picture should be clearly in focas when this happens, or let up on the shutter button and repeat the steps again. these steps will also help use a good clear (in focas) picture, just something that you simply try but if your complications getting your picture.
I never tested the continuous shooting( but see my battery test) but canon says it really is 0.9 per sec where the sd 1200 is 1.4 shots per sec, if it is crucial for you. UPDATE > The 1200 does might seem faster, quicker in comparison to the 1300 in continuous mode, the amount of I dont know and you can spot the difference...
* (Battery) Used to do test battery (NB 6L same battery as SD1200) by making use of continuous shooting mode ( along with the flash on ) and also got approximately 400 pictures it was taking ( 1 picture every 2 seconds or less around the continuous mode( flash on ) in the event it can help you on the continuous shooting part, and once I turned the flash off it seemed to do prety good coming from a newer small canon compact digital world.
* (Battery life). In the real world I receive around 300 or maybe more pictures with some ones with all the flash, your still call for a second battery on a backup.
* It provides a little larger capacity at 1000mAh from the SD1300, were given that the canon SD940 and therefore the SD1400 is often a smaller capacity at 760mAh in the event that matters back.
** Any backup battery is actually a (power2000) for canon NB 6L (1200mAh)$19.00. I have tried personally them for some time.
I enjoy the battery charger that offer the digital camera, it really is small , charges quickley, about one and a half hours the particular charge thereafter an hour or less there after...
Some mismanagement issue the brightness on the LCD two or three notches saving some battery. I presume your newly purchased battery can do better when the first 2 charges.
* 10/30/2010 In the Columbus zoo we shot 350 pictures and much much more all of them flash on with one charge...
** Really good image quality keeping the iso at 200 and below.
I am getting on the same image quality as the SD 1200 that is excellent for the small size compact digital camera.
* As point and shoots progress we very often make sure to compare these phones digital SLRs ( speed, noise, ISOs, picture quality ) but a result of point and shoots very little sensors and craming some of those mega pixels into them it's just asking to most of the cameras....
Fewer pixels mean there's more room over the sensor along with individual pixels can be made larger to take root more light, making the camera better able to record low noise images in low light situations.
This is simply me, but I'm keen on utilizing the program mode and 100,200iso best and I do not work with the auto mode indoors ((auto works good outdoors in good light though, Lighting is everything. Indoors numerous times auto generally want to use a (quite high iso)(and sometimes no flash) to build low light photos, but this just leads to more noise, that makes your pictures look noisy grainy or snowy looking on larger prints,(or perhaps the yellow tint that some are talking about).
* I use program mode and set the iso indoors to (( 100iso ))in good light conditions or ( 200 iso ) in poorer light indoors for top level image quality indoors free of all noise from the picture. Again auto does good outdoors in good light but keep an eye on the iso in auto indoors...
* Portrait mode does better indoors than auto to keep the iso down. It uses 200iso and below. so good...
*They have got recinded the supper top quality option for the last year or so , you've just got fine and normal now, I miss the supper fine option...
The more Cash in this camera the greater number of I find myself useing ( 100iso in program mode ) in good light conditions outdoors or indoors). Again indoors you might have to make 200 to help get the picture that suits you...
** Simply side note, before judgeing your camera and unfortunately your picture quality off your computer or camera screen see some pictures printed out, why I say i thought the pictures i always took along at the rest home were just ok, but I took them how to the video store together with 8 by 10s made where they look so much better, you will see these pictures on this internet site under (view and share images in the SD1300s web page). I wish you could possibly are aware of the printed ones...
* Many of the review sites blow there pictures way up and look for defects, your planning to only make 5x7 or 8x10s and don't see (what they see).
If you'll make larger prints or have to have a better (low light camera) nonetheless remain in an area and shoot you could potentially stick with a canon S90, S95 and the bigger G11, G12, but (alot more money Actually , i know)! Just retain the iso down at 200 and below and you will definitely do fine...)
* The SD1300 have a nice sharp lens even for the telephoto end of your zoom.
Highlights sometimes are likely to blow out in very bright sun (direct light source) with regards to all small cameras(small sensor) this size, you can understand this in some belonging to the pictures I posted in this particular sight with the 1300. ( But being fair my G11 creates this change also ).
I avoid the use of I Contrast on the program mode while shooting, some times in play back I'll consider it but I'm not really a good fan of computer even then, it will brighten the picture up in dark areas but usually add to the noise a little, again this is just me a whole lot of people often that will match it and now have enjoy it see how you feel...
In auto mode there are no controll of I Contrast and that can not turn it off or on...
* I recently realy for example the colors with the pictures that canon cameras produce, again thats just me thinking out loud.
Not much trouble with red eye in pictures useing the SD1300 unless in a really dim lit room an income are when it can not modify or remedy it in red eye correction,
I have numerous small newer canon cameras as well as being no worse or better with red eye in comparison to the most my newer cameras with red eye correction.
The SD1300 posesses a touch more style, larger LCD rrncluding a much more virsatle lens when compared to the SD1200, however the 1200 is also a pretty decent camera.
The SD1300 comes with a weak battery door cover just like the SD1200.
*No Memory card * You do not get a (SD Memory Card) with the camera, they just never such as a card anymore, be aware to make sure you will never be without the need of one.
A 4gb card ( class 4 or class 6 ) would be a good way to implement (in case your preparing to take advantage of the movie mode any by any means ).
You can get by accompanied by a 2gb ( which happens to be good for most about 632 pictures ) if he does not while using the video mode much.
A 4gig Sdcard might possibly be best to 1,231 pictures.
* In case your new to this digital camera stuff make sure to low level...
