Technologies Explained
DIGIC II
Canon's purpose built DIGIC II (DIGital Imaging Core) image processor links all primary camera functions for max efficiency. DIGIC II processes signals at high speeds, causing outstanding responsiveness, rapid autofocus, and extended continuous shooting ability. Advanced image processing algorithms deliver superb image detail and color reproduction with accurate white balance and minimal noise. DIGIC II operates efficiently to increase battery life, longer shooting on one charge.
iSAPS
iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis in line with Photographic Space) automatically optimizes key camera settings before every shot. Each scene is analyzed and cross referenced against Photographic Space a vast in camera library of photographic data. This lets the digital camera to make optimal adjustments to autoexposure, autofocus, and auto white balance before image capture occurs.
9 Point AiAF
Canon's 9 point AiAF (Artificial Intelligence Autofocus) automatically scans and selects subjects with a range of nine focusing areas round the scene. This ensures accurately focused images even though subjects aren't in the heart of the frame.
FlexiZone AF/AE
FlexiZone AF/AE lets users manually simply find the focus point from any sort of time the frame by moving the autofocus window with the viewfinder. Exposure are generally for this focus examine be sure that the chosen subject is accurately focused and therefore the scene correctly exposed.
Digital Teleconverter and Safety Zoom
Similar to placing an accessory lens over the front with the camera, Canon's Digital Teleconverter adds a relentless zoom to each shot (1.4x /2.3x). While optical converter lenses develop a loss of aperture and consequently call for a slower shutter speed, the Digital Teleconverter maintains aperture size, lowering the risk of image blur.
Safety Zoom protects the image from interpolation at high degrees of digital zoom, allowing users to extend zoom magnification with out sacrificing image quality.

5.0 outside of 5 stars The only competition is the Canon A630!, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Canon PowerShot A640 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
First, a factor shouldn't matter: that's a darn attractive camera. Yes, it's plastic, but it surely does set itself apart from the 8mp A630 in beauty. Of that ranking camera, it can be too large a shirt pocket camera, and while a lot better than most compact cameras, the 4x zoom could be beat in length.
Using you, excellent good weight and feel for average sized hands. The installation of AA batteries helps keep the charge down, and has it's own advantages, however may choose the longer life charges of Lithium Ion batteries (I actually do). General, controls are very well planned and simple to try. The zoom is a good example and smooth.
For those which prefer an optical viewfinder, Canon is amongst the strongest supporter, of which this is often a more advanced than average viewfinder, it doesn't need a diopter adjustment. But you will likely never make use of it with the tremendous 2.5" rotary screen. Yes, there's 3" screens that you can buy, but this dwarfs anything with a hinge! This is the great assist in composing photos at low, high, or other odd angles (photos you simply didn't take before).
Another feature that gets high praise is the flex focus system. Today's AF cameras perform a decent job, but occassionally, they only don't hit around the right focus point. Along with the flex system, yourrrre able to pick which point to use. Might best for crowded rooms or nature photos the spot that the subject probably are not the nearest item throughout the focusing areas.
Control just for this cost could be very good indeed. Multiple "scene" modes allow it to become simple for the newbie (ok, or sometimes lazy pro), as you move the semi auto and manual modes give even experienced users all they are required.
Like the A630, this camera can have easily been priced $50 to $100 more. One levels of competition are the A630, $100 less, 8 meg, as well as a bit less attractive, more plastic looking silver.
