3.0 outside 5 stars Compact, slick, and slow to respond, November 27, 2007
This review is from: Nikon Coolpix S51 8.1MP Video camera with 3x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Matte Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this camera being a all around point and shoot for my family's use, and mean to put it back and pick another probably a Canon SD850 or similar.
First, monetary management. Photos are certainly good overall, while using exceptions noted below, and far as good as these camera, a Nikon 4300. You is small, attractive, possesses a massive LCD. I should say also appreciated the integrated (and internal) lens cover and non protruding optical zoom. The look stabilization was another selling point for me.
Then I bought the camera home... The slick look is slick (that is to say slippery) to carry, too. The tiny buttons aren't well differentiated, and like other reviewers I came across myself accidentally showing up in the on / off switch frequently. The great LCD always looks grainy, making me think my photos weren't very good until I viewed them on my PC monitor. Furthermore , i found the interface confusing (and I'm no electronics newbie).
But the true killer could be the camera's speed. It snaps open and has lights extremely quickly, it refuses to go on a photo for approximately two seconds. Press the shutter button again, and you are clearly waiting A couple of more seconds although it focuses and processes at that same moment the children have turned away consequently they are by means of something else. In summary, that is unbearably slow in everyday use.
Back in the box, then.
UPDATE: I returned this camera and got a new Canon SD850 Is really as an upgraded. What i'm much happier canon's is SUPER quick so that i not anymore get photos within the backs of this kids heads, their ears and hair, or use the background once i was installing the shot... Other quirks with all the Nikon which noticed in seven days people: The battery/card door can be quite challenging to open and feels flimsy; the charger requires a big bulky cord; the slim design fit very nicely in any pocket.
