4.0 of 5 stars Worth the amount of money with the New Price, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Nikon Coolpix P1 8MP Camera with 3.5x Optical Zoom (Wi Fi Capable) (Electronics)
I picked this camera up inside the new low cost ($150 less). Due to this price the digital camera is definately definitely worth the money. With a picture taking standpoint the digital camera fantastic. 8 Megapixel photos that appear to be great, great flexibility varied sceens in addition to a pretty quick shutter release are classified as the highlights. You is equipped with some difficulty focusing in dark situations especially if you have zoomed in and the object wrong in size distant.
The main problem I encountered is establishing the wi fi feature. I consider myself pretty computer literate, but this stumped me for a little bit. A call to Nikon was pleasant but a total waste of time. The greatest problem you will definitely come upon is if you will have Firewall Enabled in XP or XP Pro. It is important to look close but on page 136 of the manual there's a simple little note about Port settings if you utilize a firewall (and who doesn't?). Also, the Nikon rep was clueless to look at told him it worked with firewall off but wouldn't with firewall on. He basically said, he'd not a clue and firewalls aren't Nikons specialty. Anyway, the bottom line is to visit security settings, simply click on Windows Firewall Settings, click "Add Port" and add UDP port 5353 and click OK. Add another port only at this point select TCP port 15740 and click on OK. This was VERY POORLY explained with the manual and I couldn't find anything online.
While just taking pictures battery life was fine. Utilizing the wi fi feature really uses battery life. To obtain the getting a good battery (only $17) being a spare for any longer trips. That will provide in excess of 300 photos.
