After extensive research on advanced point and shoots that use AA batteries (something I require), I chosen three: the Nikon L100, the canon eos Powershot SX10IS, and therefore the Fujifilm s8100fd. To make sure you the many perspective where this review is coming, I am not a professional photographer but That's not me clueless either. However, this is certainly my first camera more advanced than a basic point and shoot. So I'll call myself conscious beginner.

This is why I chose the L100:

COST: The L100 is considerably less expensive versus the SX10IS. The s8100fd's price was such as the L100, but It seemed like the technology over the L100 was better. Amazon had the most suitable price We can find (besides some sketchy online sellers).

TECHNOLOGY: I thought this was a toughy. All three of these cameras have comparable technology (image stabilization, zoom, megapixels, face recognition, scene modes, etc. etc.) and each has one or two unique features that we found very attractive. So this variable isn't a proposal maker or breaker in my position. In case it came down with it, the L100 is one of beginner friendly with the three cameras. The Auto Modes do literally everything for your requirements: the digital camera chooses the shutter speed, ISO, aperture, no flash a treadmill associated with a selection of flash modes, AND scene mode, which neither from the other cameras do. So from bright to low light situations and from various distances, it will eventually automatically adjust more areas of the shot than will another cameras. This, I do think, is especially irresistible to the minimally experienced photographer who just needs to click on the button wherever they can indeed be and are available out with great pictures.

WEIGHT AND SIZE: I handled a Canon Powershot SX10IS at the store but it was just overweight for my liking (a common complaint, from what I've read). The L100 is extremely lightweight. But the s8100fd is of similar weight, the L100 is slightly smaller proportions, i like.

LARGER SCREEN: Several inch LCD is bigger versus the screens on the other half cameras, life style bright, there are a coating that reduces glare.

After experimenting together with the camera for a few days, here are a few additional observations/impressions:

MENU: Recption menus could be very user friendly and easily navigable. No problems there. Take ten minutes to enjoy a book because of the manual in order to understand many of the menu options.

DESIGN AND FEEL: It is far from a slippery camera, which appears a complaint with belonging to the comparable cameras I've read reviews about. The buttons seem intuitively placed with me, along with camera feels balanced into my hand.

IMAGE STABILIZATION: This is very effective. So long as you are typically an appropriate mode (browse the manual for descriptions of situations you need to discover the modes yourself) you takes completely focused and clear pictures, even with an unsteady hand.

BATTERIES and Storage device: It life on this subject camera is good: 900 shots with Li Ion batteries. Some do not like the Facts turn out to be available in identical door because the batteries (like it has been this camera), but I cannot consider a challenge with it. I aquired an Ultra II SDHC card in the camera but it processes the pictures very quickly.

TAKING PICTURES: Like I mentioned before, I am not saying a veteran photographer. But I uncovered that as they are during the "Easy Auto" Mode, this camera takes focused, sharp, professional looking pictures. As I started to play with features, I became even more impressed aided by the expertise of the pictures in a variety of lighting, distance, and movement situations. The High ISO mode captures movement Exceptionally well! When i first tested it by waving my arm around the mirror you'd like I could and taking photos, along with the camera captured perfectly focused and crisp pictures of me. This is the first camera I've ever used that captures excellent movement shots. Even at maximum zoom, the shots are focused and search great. The flash is extremely bright, although I find I rarely must use it.

The only complaint which i have here is which the camera has trouble concentrating on objects in dim light, including close objects in Macro Mode. However, from a multitude of reviews I've please read on other comparable cameras, this appears the same problem. It's also quite likely that I haven't played around when using the camera enough to recognise methods to circumvent the condition, but I still had been a little disappointed.

OVERALL: This camera is inexpensive for it's class, lightweight, gets the most advanced technology, and it's extremely beginner and user friendly. Is it doesn't perfect camera for somebody does anyone want something greater than a basic point and shoot but doesn't want to blow the amount of money for an SLR or even the energy considering a very complex camera to receive great shots. For any beginner to moderately skilled photographers debating between a sophisticated point and shoot in addition to a SLR (like I initially did), you with thankful you were given this over a really expensive and bulky SLR. A SLR by using a 15x+ telephoto lens will definitely cost 3 4 times at least this camera, and I'm boastful when using the expertise of the photos I'm getting using the L100. The Easy Auto and Auto modes can be the perfect and i believe almost all people can be really pleased with the shots they will produce whilst in them, whether or not they never leave those modes. However, learning most of the features set up and hasn't taken me that long, and my pictures have looked large numbers of professional the greater number of I've played around along with them. This is usually a great camera.
