4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Improved Low End L Series, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Nikon Coolpix L10 5MP Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
With standard proviso that tech stuff always gets better and cheaper, I recommend this new camera model towards the affordable. We've only been there for a few days, since Nikon didn't warranty my broken LCD screen on my L4. Please do beware together with the fragile nature of these electronics! I didn't drop it or abuse it, that's why apparently broke in doing my pocket in just a padded case!
Back in the L10, most things are more advanced than the last, low end, L cameras, with improved sound, and what the heck is best for me, voice recording capacity, away from 20 second voice memos attached with an individual photo. While digital voice recorders are cheap for PCs, I own a Mac and previously, only iPods with accessories, or other costly recorders, can produce sound files for being then imported for a computer and then burned to CDs. With just a 512 MB card, you could record all night.
The image quality is bluish, some color cast that hopefully is corrected with software. The sharpness looks O.K., but for the price, it's for me. This will make a great back up camera, as I use another rather pricey L series camera. Driving on the road, Determine afford missing a terrific scenic shot, or lots of those.
The L10 has a smaller footprint and slimmer compared to L4. It carries well to your bottom line. It has slightly simpler buttons and controls. The lens retraction is quicker on shut off, additionally , the zoom is pretty abrupt. Other new, handy features are characteristic in the planned obsolescence of most tech items. Goodies that would to get planning to upgrade!
It will continue to be seen how durable this camera actually is, but Relating to high hopes. I want to a little more careful, and do not subject this beauty to shock or any possibility that drops.
Speaking that has a tech support rep, you need to have nickel metal hydride batteries with more than 2000 mAh worth of power, rather than whatever they recommend (Nikon approved rechargables). Many of my Ray o Vacs aren't.
I'm only using the approved SD cards, nonetheless they now support approximately 4GB cards. That's great when you trust the invitation will not fail why I buy several in smaller capacities, and thus do not own all my eggs per basket. You get enough memory, then at 4 GB, for probably then, a handful of thousand photos storage.
One major thing they will use are classified as the streaks that still can be purchased in movie mode when confronted with bright reflections or sun. Quite a bit less bad in earlier L's, these don't can be purchased in final still images, but they are seen in movies. In which case you have to remember not to shoot movies away from evenly lit scenes. My older Coolpix cameras didn't have concern. The movie quality is pretty decent, but just a little down from my movies using my L5. Shooting movies from the train, the bells and horns are much clearer sounding when compared to the earlier models.
Despite how much the ads say, I will find no VR feature in this particular model, you know nothing relating to this in the manual. Unless it's always enabled at all times, which seems turn out to be not, you might would like to wait until this glorious feature becomes standard on all purchases. To get more detailed serious photographers, VR is included at the more expensive, new L's.
Also, I see nothing about ISO power to 800, but I've not yet tried night or low light scenes. One telephoto became available blurred, with out blur warning, there.
All in all, nevertheless this is fantastic technology, all during a highly affordable price, and although Nikon isn't the top rated brand considering that it had been, I'd get this as being a first, around the home and back up, photographic camera, any time you haven't owned a high quality one yet.
