5.0 of 5 stars I prefer Xoom over iPad 2 and here's why...., March 27, 2011
This review is from: MOTOROLA XOOM Android Tablet (Wi Fi) (Desktops)
First in all I would like to say i always own both Apple and Google/Android devices. I own iPod Touch and have messed around with iPad of comparative who own the 780. Furthermore used iPad 2 considerably at the store and even from a friend who reached it on launch day. I currently own original Motorola Droid and searching to upgrade to newer Android phone this summer. It is hard to never compare Xoom to its competitor aka iPad 2. Therefore, this review will entail Xoom features (Wifi version) along with comparison to iPad 2.
Operating System An iPad one is more resembling a smartphone where by a Xoom one is more reminiscent of a laptop. Honeycomb feels more like a tablet. It is not just a row of apps and wasted space like iOS. Plus, you might have room for customization (widget, live wallpaper, theme etc). We also have little detail that tech savvy will appreciate (outline grid, advanced settings, google labs etc) Honeycomb is rather buggy though not relevant that hot weather becomes annoying. I have several force close (app closed because of error) for five hours straight use. Obviously iOS the proven OS and was out almost 4 yrs ago one is the most stable compared to Honeycomb, a completely new OS (optimized for tablet use) that was out last month in addition to its SDK. Google know Honeycomb still needs improvement, I've met Honeycomb is unfinished and i also don't mind looking ahead to a better choice experience.
Winner: To each his own but I prefer Honeycomb better.
Design/Apperance/Screen Xoom is heavier that is due to a solid build quality i always love. It is additionally thicker and allows wider screen (appropriate for movies than iPad 2). Although Xoom has higher screen resolution, iPad 2 still needs brighter screen and much more vivid look.
Winner: iPad 2 by touch
User Interface Most people say Honeycomb large complicated to apply. Well maybe to individuals who's used only iPad. For an individual who use both, Groundbreaking , i was say it will be simple to utilize. iOS one is the most intuitive and foolproof but there is however far more detail/option on Xoom that the majority of people will appreciate.
Winner: Tie
Multitasking Body button therefore takes you to five last apps for straightforward switching on Xoom. iPad 2 type have multitasking but is not an authentic multitasking experience.
Winner: Xoom
Browser If you use Chrome browser before, it is actually literally because of this on Xoom. I favor tabbed browsing over the need to press button to spread out various windows on Safari. You can actually type search upon address bar like Chrome. You could sync bookmarks through your Google account. Buyers . I know there are more browser apps available. Nevertheless for a stock browser app, Xoom carries a better experience.
Winner: Xoom
Apps iPad is way ahead in term of apps and it is because original iPad had at the least 12 months head start vs Xoom. Not to mention Honeycomb is unfinished and SDK was recently released. However, the tablet apps which may be used on Android market (about 50 tablet apps), many of them work great look at awesome. Keep in mind that you can actually still use Android phone apps. The phone apps get extended nevertheless keep your high resolution thus they won't look bad on screen whatsoever. Have time.
Winner: iPad 2
Customization It's one of the best part about Android. You've gotten open customization from themes, widgets to customized home screen and live wallpapers. iOS has none of the should you don't jailbreak it.
Winner: Xoom
Notification Assuming you have iPhone and iPad, you probably know how notification can be quite painful. Xoom has better notification system that demonstrate up briefly in bottom right corner. You'll be able to press it to observe all notifications. There is possibly LED notification on the top right within the device.
Winner: Xoom
Performance A5 vs Tegra 2 is up for debate. Xoom appear to be as powerful as iPad 2 with exception of GPU (sometimes appears with gaming and screen brightness). iPad 2 has 512MB RAM vs 1 GB RAM on Xoom.
Winner: ???
Camera/Video/Audio Better camera and video on Xoom as a consequence of its higher spec vs VGA front and minimize MP back camera on iPad 2. Camera app gets a modest amount of time for you to get accustomed to on Xoom. Speaker on Xoom is good but I wish the volume rocker is visible on the side. It is like the button could become stuck into your device.
Winner: Xoom
Flash Yes, Flash continues to in beta nevertheless is effective already with spot of lagging but barely noticeable. I tested it on sites apply Flash like Engadget (video), Honda (car animation), Vice Versa restaurant in NYC (heavy flash site), Myspace and bandcamp (with ipod on artist page). iOS is without Flash In anyway as we both know.
Winner: Xoom utilizing a mile (until HTML5 is completely functional)
Battery Life Xoom gets about 8 9 hours for heavy multitasking usage. Should test standby time but I expect so that it is less than iPad 2. iPad 2 gets at any rate 10 hours of heavy usage.
Winner: iPad 2
GPS Need to point out that GPS and full Google maps navigation can be found on Xoom wifi. While you're on iPad 2, it's only available when you get 3G+wifi version. Of course , if have Google maps app before on Android you are aware that it is usually more extensive than map on iOS (turn by turn voice navigation, layers etc). Since this is a Wifi version, You can find cache settings on bing Maps places to prefetch map tiles by panning throughout the city/region while you're on Wifi (approximately ?? MB. Really need to verify the cap). You'll be able to navigate to destination exactly like normal with voice navigation. It's not possible to customize the destination midway obviously nevertheless there is no 3G connection. The opposite alternative is to tether the product with 3G/4G smartphone.
Winner Xoom
Nitpick Facts slot on Xoom remains to be not enabled at this point. Also, I wish Xoom will be charged through micro USB but I think it might be because micro USB doesn't supply enough current to charge a tablet.
In the completed, you'll prefer one device throughout the other plus its to each and every his own. However, using the overall factors I said above, I prefer Xoom.
